Grantville's FY2027 budget and 17.5% tax increase, explained
The Grantville City Council has adopted the city’s fiscal year 2027 budget and set the 2026 property tax millage rate. Under Georgia law, the new rate counts as a property tax increase.
The numbers
- Budget: about $3.88 million, adopted at a special-called meeting after the third public hearing. No members of the public spoke at that hearing, according to the Newnan Times-Herald.
- Millage rate: 2.500 mills. That is 0.372 mills above the 2.128-mill rollback rate, which the city’s notice describes as a 17.50% property tax increase.
- What it costs you: the city’s notice estimates the increase at about $37.20 a year on a $250,000 home, for both homestead and non-homestead property.
What else was adopted
Council also considered Resolution No. 2026-10, which adopts the Capital Improvement Project Plan for FY2027–FY2031. The Ledger will track it in a Capital Plan tracker.
The debate
The Times-Herald reported that discussion before the vote included questions about utility revenues, cemetery expenses and contract labor, and about whether council members had enough time to review the budget. Council member David Clark was absent.
