What we collect
- What you send us. When you use a form (newsletter, events, churches, businesses, milestones, obituaries or Spotlight nominations), we receive what you type, such as your name, email and phone.
- Security log. With every form submission we record your IP address, approximate location estimated from that IP address (city, region, country), your browser's user-agent string, the page you submitted from, the time (UTC), the form name and a submission ID.
- Site statistics. We use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which is cookie-free and doesn't track you across sites, to count visits, pages viewed and referring sites in aggregate.
Why
We use your submission to review and publish community news and to contact you about it. We keep security logs to prevent spam and abuse and so that illegal submissions, such as threats, harassment or material that sexually exploits children, can be traced and reported. Submissions are automatically screened, and illegal content is reported to law enforcement and the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children.
How long we keep it
Security logs are kept for 12 months, then deleted, unless we must keep a record longer for an active report or a legal request. Records tied to a report to law enforcement or NCMEC are preserved as the law requires.
Who sees it
Only the publisher and editors of The Grantville Ledger. Submissions are processed by our hosting and email providers (Netlify, Google and Zoho), our analytics provider (Cloudflare) on our behalf, and a third-party service may be used to estimate location from an IP address.
We never sell your data, and we don't share it with advertisers.
Legal requests
We cooperate with valid legal requests, such as subpoenas, court orders and warrants, and we report illegal content as the law requires.
