COWETA COUNTY — A western Coweta County resident was killed Wednesday afternoon, Nov. 4, when an SUV ran a stop sign, struck him in his driveway and crashed into the house, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

The crash happened at the intersection of Old Corinth Road and Earl North Road in unincorporated Coweta near Newnan — rural roads many Grantville and west-Coweta drivers use when they are not on I-85 or U.S. 29. GSP Post 24 in Newnan is investigating. The Ledger is summarizing official accounts reported by the Times-Herald, Atlanta News First and 11Alive; we have not independently interviewed witnesses.

Why it matters in Grantville

Grantville sits at the southwest edge of Coweta. Errands, school runs to Newnan High and Smokey Road Middle, and trips toward Newnan or I-85 Exit 35 regularly put local drivers on the same county road network. A fatal stop-sign crash on a residential western-Coweta intersection is a public-safety story for the whole corridor — not only the block where it happened.
