Grantville rental proposal calls for permits, fees and quiet hours

By The Grantville Ledger · Nov 7, 2026

Grantville City Council gave proposed short-term rental regulations a first reading Sept. 28, following discussion of permit fees, insurance requirements and overnight noise restrictions for rental properties. The official minutes record the first-reading discussion of Ordinance 2026-08 but no vote to adopt it that night.

The proposal would require a separate permit for each rental dwelling unit, liability insurance and a designated local agent available to respond to complaints and emergencies, according to the Times-Herald’s Sept. 15 report on the council’s Sept. 14 work session. The written draft included occupancy limits, parking requirements and quiet hours from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. ET.

The draft set an initial application and permit fee of $750, including the first routine inspection, and an annual renewal fee of $400, with business-license charges separate, the newspaper reported. Mayor Richard Proctor described a $750 annual fee during the discussion, a different amount from the written draft’s renewal fee.

Council members discussed approximately 13 or 14 Airbnb listings in Grantville. Councilwoman Dee Berry asked how the city would identify rentals operating outside that platform, and Proctor said the city would check other listing services, according to the Times-Herald. No votes were taken at the work session.

Short-term rental regulations did not appear on the city’s posted Oct. 26 regular-meeting agenda and are not listed on the posted agenda for the Nov. 9 work session. Monday’s agenda instead calls for discussion of an outdoor shooting-range application on Bohannon Road, an alcohol-license application for Local Color and a Georgia Power easement at 225 Colley St.

The Nov. 9 work session is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. ET in the City Council chambers at the Glanton Municipal Complex, 123 LaGrange St.
